Help is coming to 14,000 most endangered women in Serbia

More than 14,000 of the most endangered women in 50 municipalities in Serbia will receive aid in the amount of EUR 100,000 in hygiene packages and necessary food, as quoted in the joint statement by the Coordinating Body for Gender Equality, the Ministry for European Integrations and the European Union Delegation to Serbia.

The funds are provided by the financial support of the EU Delegation to Serbia which has redirected part of the resources from the IPA 2016 ``Key steps toward gender equality`` project and will be distributed to the teams of volunteers and the Red Cross teams for emergency situations which will be organizing the distribution of aid to the most endangered women at a local level.

The President of the Coordinating Body, Zorana Mihajlović, says that solidarity and cooperation during the time of the Coronavirus pandemic are very important.

In the following days, the most endangered women of our municipalities will receive aid and food which are necessary to them, owing to this decision. I call upon everyone who want to help in this way to give us a call and the doors of the Coordinating Body and the Government of Serbia will be opened for them

Mihajlović stated.

The ``Key steps toward gender equality`` project is realized in cooperation with the Ministry for European Integrations.

It is very important that we show solidarity and understanding for those who are most vulnerable and most endangered, at the time when we are facing an unprecedented risk caused by the spreading of the COVID-19. I am certain that the women in Serbia, whether in villages or cities, will be the ones we rely on for our social and economic revival, as well as the ones who are fighting in these hard conditions for the health of our patients in hospitals, who work in supermarkets, farms and media

as stated by the Minister for European Integrations, Jadranka Joksimović.

The resources for the entire project are provided with the financial aid of the European Union Delegation to Serbia.

In these hard times, more than ever before, we must hold together and protect the ones who are most endangered. As part of the EU support package for battling the COVID-19 pandemic, we have allocated EUR 100.000 for the aid for endangered women in 50 municipalities of Serbia which will secure food and hygienic necessities, as well as provide aid for their mental health during the isolation period. Persons with disabilities, single mothers, women who take care of large families, victims of family violence, senior citizens from less accessible areas of Serbia, the Roma communities – none of them should be neglected and the European Union will continue to provide aid

said ambassador Sem Fabrizi, the head of the European Union Delegation to Serbia.

The Red Cross Serbia will provide support in the realization of this project, given the fact that this organization has the most elaborate and widespread network in cities and municipalities in our country, as well as a clear overview of the needs of the most endangered categories of citizens.

The ``Key steps toward gender equality`` project is realized by the Coordinating Body for Gender Equality, the Ministry for European Integrations and UN Women, with the financial support from the EU Delegation in Serbia.
